FEATURES AND BENEFITS
1) Crackless application.
2) Mixes easily with potable water.
3) Ideal for smoothing and concrete surfaces.
4) Ideal for walls before painting.
5) Weather resistant – does not deteriorate with age.
USES
1) To smooth and level interior and exterior concrete walls, cementitious renders and cement lime mortar, old quartz paints, textured paints etc.
2) Leveling and finishing concrete walls, cementitious renders or cement lime mortar before painting.
3) Smoothing walls before installing ceramic tiles.
4) Smoothing walls, even over existing paint such as washable acrylic paints, quartz paints, textured paints etc. as long as they are solid, clean and well anchored.
5) Smoothing old wall mosaic coverings.
SURFACE PREPARATION
1) Surfaces must be perfectly clean and sound.
2) If the substrate is dirty, it is recommended to wash the surface with water in order to remove any dust that could interfere with the adhesion.
3) Before applying R3 Coarse Putty remove all the free water from the surface.
MIXING
1) Pour 7.5 liters of water into a clean container and, while mixing slowly, add a 25 kg bag of R3 Coarse Putty.
2) Mix for several minutes making sure any unblended is removed from the bottom and the sides of the container as mixing proceeds.
3) Mix until a homogeneous, completely lump-free mixture is obtained.
4) A low speed mechanical stirrer is used to avoid excess air.
5) In order to completely disperse the contained additives, allow the mixture to stand for approximately 10 minutes after its preparation.
6) Mix briefly before use. Avoid preparing the mix manually.
APPLICATION
1) Apply the compound to a maximum of 2 mm thick per coat with a flat metal trowel on the surface.
2) Porous substrates, such as renders or concrete, must be dampened with water beforehand.
3) The surface finishing of R3 Coarse Putty can be carried out either with a flat metal trowel or with a sponge float several minutes after its application.
4) In high temperatures, windy or sunny days, it is recommended to nebulize the surface with water after it begins to set (when the product does not “mark” with finger pressure) and during the following days when the mortar has completely cured. This is to avoid rapid drying and hygrometric shrinkage that could cause cracks.
5) Due to R3 Coarse Putty’s high bonding strength, it is recommended to wash working tools with water before the mortar hardens.
6) Once R3 Coarse Putty hardens, it is very difficult to remove and tools can only be cleaned by mechanical means.
DOSAGE
Approximately 1~1.5 kg/m2 per mm of thickness.
Less dosages for even surface.
PRECAUTIONS
1) Do not use R3 Coarse Putty for finishing thicknesses greater than 6 mm.
2) Do not apply R3 Coarse Putty at temperatures below+5°C or above +35°C.
3) Do not add cement, lime, gypsum or aggregates to R3 Coarse Putty.
4) Do not use directly on gypsum or anhydrite surfaces. Apply Primer over gypsum-based renders.
5) Do not apply R3 Coarse Putty over dirty or crumbly surfaces.
6) Use R4 Flex Putty to protect hydraulic structures or surfaces subject to abrasion.
7) Do not apply R3 Coarse Putty on painted surfaces or surfaces covered with plastic coatings.
8.) Do not use R3 Coarse Putty in windy days or when the surfaces are subject to direct sun light.
